🤔 How To Deal With “Difficult” Families 🤭⠀⠀

🥴 So I will admit, there will be days where patience gets tested when it comes to working with patients and families. Being in healthcare, there’s no avoiding it. ⠀

🖐🏻 But stop and remember this. In the end of the day, your job as healthcare professionals is to be “professional.” Our jobs are dedicated to taking care of people at their worst and most vulnerable and you will deal with family members who will do everything and anything to make sure that happens for their loved ones. ⠀

👐🏻 It is very important to set boundaries, time windows, and have clear open communication. Keeping the family in the loop at all times helps to bridge this gap and relieve uneasiness from things they can’t control and makes them feel as involved as much as possible. ⠀

😰 More than anything, being in a hospital setting just causes a lot of anxiety and people want someone or something to blame. Remember to not take things to heart and try to put yourself in your patients/families shoes. ⠀

😊 Be understanding and patient. Explaining and repetition is also important to making sure they fully understand. And it is also okay for you to step back and have someone take over for you if things get overwhelming. We are human also 🤗
