📃 College apps for nursing school always usually ask the same thing. “Why Nursing?” and basically why should they choose you above thousands of other applications.⠀
⠀
📄 I have gone through my fair share of reading college app essays, and I realize there is a common topic with every essay I read. “I want to help people and give back.” And this answer may not be wrong. Our purpose as healthcare professionals should be to prioritize our patients and give back to those during their most vulnerable.⠀
⠀
✋🏻 BUT now imagine thousands of apps saying the same thing. College admissions want you to dig deeper. Think about specific examples through your daily life, your volunteer services, working, etc on a time that was a “revelation” moment for you and that you knew in your brain that this is it - nursing is what I want to do for the rest of my life. ⠀
⠀
💕 Make that passion overflow in your writing!! When you talk about specific examples, it’s unique to you and it’s your own personal experiences that’s gonna help you stand out! ⠀
⠀
🤗 Mention your leadership, volunteer, work, and/or extracurricular experiences. Literally use this opportunity to boast about yourself! If you’re currently in high school and prepping, use every possible moment you can to research volunteer opportunities. There are even some you can do online (especially right now during covid)!! Saying you want to help people is one thing, but showing what you have done so far to give back to the community speaks volumes.
