Comfort measures include:⠀

👶🏻 Always make sure to swaddle your babies tight. This helps to contain the baby. ⠀

👄 Give a pacifier and sucrose if needed since this is considered a painful procedure. ⠀

🤲🏻 Have the parents or another staff member console the baby with gentle touch or soothing words. ⠀

Labs allow us to monitor the patient’s status and can help us to determine if the baby is sick, getting sick, or improving. Assessing the various lab values can help us to determine the next steps for the patient. ⠀
