👶🏻 Blood Pressure Monitoring in the NICU 👶🏻⠀⠀

➡️ Aside from blood pressure cuff monitoring we can also monitor patient’s blood pressures through an arterial umbilical line (UAC) which gives us a continuous reading. ⠀

➡️ Having this continuous reading allows us to assess the patient’s current status and determine if interventions are necessary. As nurses, it is our role to monitor the blood pressure and titrate blood pressure medications if necessary. ⠀

💊 The 2 most common blood pressure continuous drips are dopamine and dobutamine. ⠀

➡️ For automatic blood pressures, always make sure to get it when your patient is quiet and asleep. Get it as the first thing you do before you start your assessment and always make sure the line on the cuff matches your artery on your patient.
